Kerry Dark Sky Reserve in the media

In the last couple of weeks alone, we have been on the national broadcaster RTE speaking in Irish and in English both on radio and on TV (hear us on Supercharged with Anna Geary on RTE Radio 1 on 23 August), featured in the Irish Times, interviewed for the Journal as well as for an article published in Woman's Way 'Take you Passion and Make it Happen!'. Radio Kerry got our delighted response to the news that French hospitality group Accor has put the Kerry Dark Sky Reserve in the Top 5 European Stargazing Destinations. Aoibheann spoke on BBC news for 3 minutes - you can also see Michael and Aoibheann in this video by the Associated Press.

In a week in which we organized many free events including a solar eclipse at the waterfront in Waterville in an event led by Noel Clarke, stargazing with telescopes with Keith Cuneen at Staigue Fort House and archaeology walks with Aoibheann Lambe, the excitement was only compounded by starry skies, sparkling phosphorescence in the seawater and even some Aurora Borealis.

We are delighted to get the message out about our dark skies where the stars stand out against the black skies which are dark thanks to the lack of light pollution in the Reserve - this natural darkness is so important for our circadian rhythm and for the well-being of everything in the natural world including us. Light pollution is the easiest of any pollution to reverse - turn off the lights!
