Stargazing on 20 August for Heritage Week

Exploring our foundations in the universe - stargazing event.

When: Wednesday 20 August 9.30-11.00pm

Where: Staigue Fort House (V93 FA36)

Carbon, one of the fundamental building blocks of all lifeforms, us included, was originally formed through nuclear fusion within stars. This Heritage Week, explore our foundations in the universe with Kerry Dark Sky Tourism and Caherdaniel Dark Sky Group on Wed 20 August. We will look deep into the universe using a range of telescopes for that special 'space feel', pumping up the volume on the moon to well over 100* magnification. This event takes place in the garden of Staigue Fort House in the heart of the Gold Tier Kerry Dark Sky Reserve. The event is led by Michael Sheehan and Aoibheann Lambe of Kerry Dark Sky Tourism and Caherdaniel Dark Sky Group with special guest Keith Cuneen, telescope and astronomy expert.

Michael Sheehan is our local dark sky hero - one of the core team who along with Julie Ormond, Denis O'Connor and Pádraig Sands initiated the application which resulted in the Gold Tier Dark Sky designation for South Kerry in 2014. There is no charge for this event. Booking is essential as there are limited places. Any questions, contact us. To make you reservation and for further info - you can book directly here
